Fascia therapy

Fascial Distortion Model (FDM)

The patient as expert

Fascia the underestimated tissue:

It is not only bones, joints or muscles that can cause discomfort. Much more frequently than expected, the cause is a deformation of the fascia.

The fascial distortion model (FDM for short) was developed by the American physician and osteopath Dr. Stephen Typaldos in the 1990s. “The uniqueness of this method is that the FDM takes the patient’s perceptual system into account …”. Source: Dr. Harrer, G. (Nov 2013) at the international symposium “Facia & Osteopathy” in Berlin.

Typaldos has classified 6 different fascial distortions. In this FDM concept, it is assumed that a deformation of a fascia is responsible for the patient’s complaints. The aim is to find the deformation and correct it to its correct shape.

As the expert for his body, the patient uses pain gestures (body language) to show which distortions he has. This means that in this new medical model, the patient’s perception of pain is taken seriously and becomes a crucial part of the diagnosis. It is teamwork – the patient guides the therapist in the choice of techniques. The result is checked immediately afterwards.

Award of the international certificate (IC)

All our therapists are trained in fascial therapy according to the recognized Fascial Distortion Model (FDM). This makes us the largest fascia competence center in the Rhine-Main region. There are currently only two IC therapists (international certificate) in Hesse. One of them is the owner of Osteopathie am Römer and is therefore also authorized to work as a supervisor.

FDM working group with Dr. med. Gui Li (company doctor at Porsche)

The FDM working group for the Rhine-Main area has been running at the Osteopathie am Römer practice since 2017. Selected complaints are examined and treated together by the working group as case studies.

Internal training with Christoph Rossmy
Internal training with Christoph Rossmy

In 2018, we were able to attract the renowned lecturer Christoph Rossmy for the training course “Jaw tinnitus dizziness in FDM therapy”. Rossmy shared his repertoire of techniques, which represent a further development of FDM.
